In-car entertainment can be widely regarded as a competitive industry, judging by the level of technology that evolves at a consistently rapid pace. Thus, it comes as little surprise that major players have to develop newer products to stay relevant in this ever-changing landscape. Pioneer has certainly shown that it has what it takes to dominate the industry, and 2015 is no different when it unveiled its AVH-X8750BT flagship multimedia receiver.
REV was present at last year’s release of the feature-packed AVH-X8650BT predecessor during the Bangkok International Motor Show, and returned home thoroughly impressed by Pioneer’s ability to integrate a host of connectivity in a concise and functional package. Now, this AVH-X8750BT successor might not look drastically different from the model it replaces, but inner workings reveal no lack of tricks to deliver a more seamless and intuitive user experience.
For a start, smartphone connectivity is enhanced with access to Apple’s CarPlay and Android Auto (only for the Australian market). It is interesting to note that Pioneer is one of the first brands to use Apple CarPlay in Singapore. Although more information about its specific functions will be revealed for the local market at a later date, we reckon that this partnership with Apple would be a fresh addition to bolster Pioneer’s already beefy specs sheet.
Drivers who spend plenty of time handling calls behind the wheel will be glad to learn that Bluetooth capability has been enhanced with the AVH-X8750BT. According to Pioneer, plenty of development has gone into improving call quality, and even wireless audio streaming. Clearer vocals during calls will effectively ease the “strain” from listening and facilitate more safety on the go. One of the positive takeaways during a brief hands-on session with the AVH-X8750BT is its much-improved audio and video performance. According to Pioneer,it is the first to offer playback of files encoded as high-res FLAC up to 192kHz/24 bit.
While these technical jargons might sound completely foreign to most of us, a quick listen in a AVH-X8750BT-equipped Toyota Camry revealed that audio quality is of premium standard. Quality is amplified via its Auto-Time Alignment feature – a neat trick that allows music to reach the listener’s ears in perfect sync. If you are driving solo, tune in to the “front-right” setting under the “Listening Position” tab and enjoy pinpoint audio accuracy with maximum soundscape.
And while the primary duties of a flagship headunit should be to furnish top-notch audio and video, Pioneer certainly did not rest on its laurels by including a dual camera input if your car comes equipped with a front and rear camera. As explained by Pioneer’s Senior Product Specialist, this will certainly come in handy for parallel parking – a skill that an increasing number of drivers prefer to resolve via automation!
The AVH-X8750BT might look almost identical to its predecessor, but what matters goes much more than skin deep. And with this accommodation of more user-friendly and innovative functions, Pioneer has managed to formulate a class-leading premium headunit for the masses!
[The Pioneer AVH-X8750BT multimedia receiver retails at SGD$1,099 and is available at all Pioneer authorised dealers]
