They say everyone is good at something, but it seems Škoda is bucking the trend with the Škoda Octavia 1.4 TSI, a car that’s good for more than one thing.
In its everyday form, the new Škoda Octavia 1.4 TSI is a sedan with an advantage. Its four-cylinder 1.4-litre engine (that the critically-acclaimed Volkswagen Golf TSI shares) is turbocharged to provide that extra boost when you do need it. Moreover, cruise control makes driving on expressways a more relaxing experience.
But the 7-speed automatic Škoda Octavia 1.4 TSI can easily rise up to a sporting challenge. With a maximum torque of 250 Nm and power of 150 hp, movement on the race track becomes second nature for the Octavia, which can go from 0-100 km/h in just 8.2 seconds. And that should come as no surprise, with Škoda Motorsport benefiting from more than a hundred years of racing experience. The Škoda Octavia 1.4 TSI’s front-wheel-drive layout also allows for easier overall control.
Sticking true to the company’s philosophy of being Škoda Šmart, the Octavia is a sporty sedan that punches way above its weight, cleverly delivering big on what matters: A high-quality and comfortable, yet sporty ride that comes without an astronomical cost.
Amidst the precisely-designed minimalist exterior, a robust four-lamp front grille signals the car’s bold ambitions. Škoda’s distinctive C-shape design is featured in the LED rear lights for added flair.
On the central console, a dual-zone climatronic and an eight-inch Bolero touchscreen infotainment system offers support for the driver, with SmartLink and its eight speakers providing connectivity to Apple CarPlay, Google Android Auto and MirrorLink technologies.
With a sturdy 2,686mm wheelbase, there’s certainly more space for more possibilities. The boot offers an initial 590 litres of space, that number easily triples with rear seats folded to an extended 1580 litres. Storage functionality increases with the air-conditioned glove compartment and an added umbrella box under the front-passenger’s seat.
For all its sporting and urban abilities, the Škoda Octavia 1.4 TSI is of course designed for all-rounded protection. Through its sensors, Park Distance Control warns of collision during parking. A Driver Alert system also evaluates data from the power steering sensor to detect driver fatigue, warning the tired driver to take a break, if necessary. 7 airbags come fitted in the Škoda Octavia 1.4 TSI, with an option to disable the passenger airbag if a child seat is installed.
Meanwhile, spend some time thinking about the good you’ll be doing for the world with the Škoda Octavia 1.4 TSI and it’s Vehicular Emissions Scheme (VES) rating of B. That’s plenty to do with its efficient drivetrain that uses a mere 5.2 litres per 100 km.
