As the sun rose, the valiant gladiators formed up in a row, ready to a fight to… not death. Held within the confines of the carpark at Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal on 13 August, Velotac Autotest serves as an opportunity for budding local motorsports enthusiasts to hone their technical skills in a safe environment.

The day began with a safety briefing before the participants were allowed to get practice runs to acquaint themselves with the circuit layout.

AutoTest is a hybrid event containing the features of both Gymkhana and Autocross. One can enter one of four categories depending on their skill levels – Class A is reserved for off-road cars and Class B for Gymkhana oriented. Class C for the Autocross oriented and finally, Class D for novice drivers. There will be a Team Challenge for drivers (one driver from class A/B and another from class C/D).

Thereafter, a qualifying session was conducted, with the faster drivers passing through to take part in the final elimination system. In the main event, two cars attacked the circuit simultaneously in opposite halves before switching over. A “Best of Three” shootout system was set in place to determine the winners.

The course spanned the entire length of the car park, with two competitors moving in opposite directions of the circuit. Even if you were not one of the participants, sponsors were present with booths to promote their products, serving to amplify the festival-like atmosphere of the event.

Halfway through the day, the skies opened and not everyone was thrilled at the slick tarmac. However, some drivers who were used to racing in the wet, took advantage of the weather and were slightly faster!

ACMA’s Chase Lim won in Class A, Daryl Goh took Class B top honours, Mynn Tan emerged top in Class C, and Pravin Lucas De Laure clinched top spot in Class D. Team ACMA Max Attack took first in the Team Challenge, leading the next team with a comfy 3 point lead.

The day’s proceedings concluded with participants and spectators taking away an enriching motorsports experience, leaving the industry with more room for further growth and advancement nonetheless.

The event sponsors were Velotac Lubricants, ACMA Engineering Works & Trading Pte Ltd, Monster Energy, Glass-Fix Pte Ltd, API RACING and Hardrace Singapore. Event partners included Autotrac and Automoment. The final Velotac Autotest will be held on 5 November.
